The river mesh is an openwork knit, here is how to make it. Row 1: knit all sts. Row 2: knit all stitches backwards. Row 3: stitch the right needle into the stitch on the left needle, wrap the thread three times around the right needle, then knit one wrong side. Repeat this throughout the row. Row 4: knit all stitches backwards, stitching the needle only in the first strand of each stitch.
