The foundations of the concrete block wall
Good foundations allow the concrete block wall not to collapse. The first step is to dig and pour the foundations. These must imperatively be dry and frost-free. If you use concrete block of 20 cm, the foundation will have to be dug on 40 cm. It is important to clip the bottom of the foundation in order to obtain a level wall. Professionals generally lay clean concrete at the bottom of the foundation. It is a technique which consists in spreading a first layer of 4 cm of concrete. When it comes to composing foundations, it is common to dig the equivalent of 2 rows of concrete blocks, or 40 cm. However, if you wish to obtain a more solid concrete block wall, you can compose a thicker foundation. After you have leveled the foundation, you can add scrap metal to it. The next step is to pour everything using mortar. Remember to let the foundations dry for 2 days.
The assembly of the concrete block wall
Once the foundations of your concrete block have been poured and leveled, you can start to set up the rows of agglos for the construction of the wall. Remember to check the vertical level and the horizontal, each time you place a concrete block. You can cover your concrete blocks with a generous layer of mortar. It will be necessary to provide 3 cm of mortar on each concrete block, without forgetting the joints which separate the concrete blocks. It is important to work meticulously in rows of chipboards and to offset the joints well. It is indeed not recommended to perfectly overlap the breeze blocks of all the rows. To obtain a perfectly solid concrete block wall, it is recommended to cross the rubble of the various rows, about 1/3, or 12 centimeters. Do not forget to take into account the drying time of the cement between each concrete block and the joints. When you start to install the first row of rubble stone, remember to pull a string joining the two ends of the wall. This string will serve as a benchmark and level. Once the concrete blocks are assembled, it is recommended to insert reinforcement, in order to consolidate the wall. You can place the scrap in the cavity of the concrete blocks, which you will cover with concrete.
Concrete block wall finish
As soon as the wall is fully assembled and leveled, it is time to coat it with plaster, to protect it, smooth it and correct small defects. You can opt for lime plaster, or use facade plaster. They are particularly easy to apply, inexpensive and perfectly suited for concrete block walls.
