Today I'm going to do something I never did: clean my mattress. Shame. I admit, so far, I was content to return my mattress regularly to ventilate it. But the cleaning stopped there. Today I will also clean my duvet and pillows - but I assure you, that I had already done! For this I will need: baking soda, lavender or pine essential oil, a brush, a vacuum cleaner, washing powder, a washing machine.
Clean the mattress
I take off my fitted sheet to discover my mattress. No stains or anything special. But I read everywhere on the internet that mites swarm in there, feeding on my dead skin. I simplify but this big cleaning can only do good to my mattress - and to me suddenly. In a small bowl, I mix baking soda with a few drops of pine essential oil - for the good smell.
I scatter the scented baking soda on the mattress. I make circular movements with the brush so that there is mixing everywhere. And I let it sit for at least two hours.
After two hours, I take out the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the excess bicarbonate.
I had no spots to remove, with the naked eye, you can't see anything. But tonight I go to bed in a smelly bed!
Clean the duvet and pillows
It all depends on your comforter and pillows. Mine are made of synthetic material, so they go to the washing machine - unlike those which are filled with feathers and down, it will be necessary to go to the dry cleaning. Check carefully on the labels of your duvet and pillows.
For the synthetic versions, nothing revolutionary. The washing machine, some detergent - and a little baking soda - and voila. Well almost. Because the difficulty lies in the size of your comforter and the size of your washing machine. My duvet is 220 cm x 240 cm. With this size, I would need a 7 kg washing machine. Mine is 5.5 kg. So I'm not going to tempt the devil and I'm going to have to go to the laundromat. I take a good book and go to the laundromat. Program at 60 ° C, detergent and half a cup of baking soda. As for my pillows, I can sit quietly at home. One pillow at a time in my little washing machine. But the same treatment: 60 ° C, detergent and bicarbonate. Today, thanks to the long exposure time of the baking soda and my unexpected trip to the laundromat, it will have taken me much more than 15 minutes.
What you must remember
Air your mattress at least once a week. If you can leave it in the sun - by the window, no need to take your mattress out - it will be even better, the sun will cleanse the fabric. Do not overload your washing machine! Take care not to overfill your washing machine. For your washing machine to work at its best, it must be filled to the maximum 3/4. And tomorrow ? I take care of the parquet and the walls of my room!
